Adam Horovitz on River Lane
Simon Cockle has a sharp, unsentimental eye for detail that is equally at home exploring nature as it is myth and the minutiae of the modern world. In River Lane, stacked as it is with childhood memories, the dreams that surface ‘when turning back to glance at what was left behind’ and potent images that upend the reader’s expectations, ‘everything is familiar, but different somehow’. Cockle, however, is an assured and welcoming guide. I look forward to seeing where he leads us next.
